Complete Redesign of Site
All right, some of you may have noticed the CPU errors we've been getting at MoGu--growing pains for a growing site! I have recoded the whole site to straight code instead of using the CMS I was using--not because it was a buggy CMS, but because I can't afford my own server, which is what the CMS deserved! Bottom line is you should notice a much quicker site, and no more errors! Thanks--stick around, we're growing like crazy!

Skinning your Motorola Phone in OS X.

by STi_Fanatic

This tutorial teaches you how to add skins to your Moto P2K phone using Moto4Lin. Since this seems to be a rather common topic for us Mac modders, I figured I would whip this up to show you all how easy it is to add skins using Moto4Lin.

Alright, so, before you begin, you need a few things.

1) Moto4Lin installed. See the Getting Connected guide for details.

2) A skin compatible with your phone. Check out the Skins section on MotoModders.net to download some.

To start things off, use a tool like UnRarX to unarchive the .rar file your skin most likely came in. Once you do that, you should have a folder on your desktop (or wherever you downloaded it to) with the name of your skin. Looks like this...

Fire up Moto4Lin and get your phone connected. Should look like this..

Now, click on the "File Manager" tab in Moto4Lin if it isn't already selected, like in the above screenshot. Go to the bottom and click "Update List" and wait a second or ten. A drive (or 2 if you are using a PEBL like me) will appear in the left hand directory area. Looks like this...

Like I said, I have two drives because I am using a PEBL. If you are using a RAZR or something else it should only have /a. Ok, so, you have your phone connected and ready to add files. Go to the directory area and expand the menus there using the hierarchy /*/mobile/skins/. The * is for your drive letter. You should see all the screens installed on your device there, under the skins folder. Like this.

The folders in the /skins/ directory directly correspond to the skins in your personalize menu. So, the Moto folder houses the data for your Moto skin, etc. Go to your downloaded skin folder and open it up. Look at the files, there should be a .ski file, a bunch of .dat files and maybe .p2kc files. Ignore the .p2kc files, they are only for use with P2KCommander and the lot. Take a careful look at the name before the extension of the .ski file. This is what you need to name the skin folder you are about to create. I will use the skin MacOSXTiger.

Go back into Moto4Lin and find the place below the directory area, it should have the directory of the folder you have selected typed out underneath the words "Upload Path".

We need to create a new directory for your skin. By default, Moto4Lin doesn't show empty directories, so, after you create it, it won't show up until you add files to it. IMPORTANT! Be sure to create the directory (with the exact same name as your skin) before uploading any files to it. Just type the upload path, and click "Create". Now, click the skins folder, then go to the box beneath "Upload Path" and type the name of your skin, in this fashion. /*/mobile/skins/MacOSXTiger/ DO NOT FORGET THE LAST SLASH! It's very important. So, you should see something like this.

MAKE SURE that you are using the EXACT name of your skin from the folder, up to the .ski appendage. This includes caps and everything. After double checking that you have the correct name and filepath, go over and press "Upload" and select all the files in your skin folder with the extensions .ski or .dat. Then go ahead and press "Open".

You should see the bottom of your screen updating you as it copies the files to your phone and telling you that it is finished with it's action.

Add any other files you might need, like screensavers or wallpapers, into the appropriate directories (which are /*/mobile/ pictures/) then click "Reboot" at the top.

Congratulations! Your phone is now skinned!
